Abstract

The article is aimed at the problem of studying the levels of social support for shift workers working in the Arctic territories for the development of oil and gas resources, where issues of social isolation, among other factors of chronic social stress, are the most pressing. The results of a cross-sectional study on a representative sample of workers in the Arctic latitudes of the Tyumen region are presented, depending on age and work experience on an expeditionary rotational basis (March 2022 – February 2023). To determine the components of social support – the index of close contacts (ICC) and the social connection index (SNI) – the Berkman-Syme test was used. Data were obtained that among men of economically active age 25– 54 years old, engaged in expeditionary rotational work in the Arctic, a low level of close contacts and an average level of social connections prevail. Among young people aged 25– 34 years, there is a decrease in the high level of close contacts; among mature people aged 45–54 years, there is an increase in the low level of social connections. When working on an expeditionary watch for ten years or more, a tendency has been established towards a decrease in social support and both of its components – the index of close contacts and the index of social connections. The results obtained can be used as a fundamental element of a scientific position in the formation of a medical and sociological preventive program for the category of men working in the oil and gas production complex of the Arctic region of Russia.
