V.I. Klushin’s contribution to the establishment of Russian sociology has not been duly appreciated. This is since, while consistently developing Marxist sociology and relying on the fundamental principles of historical materialism, he found himself on the sidelines of scientific research during the revival of Russian sociology at the end of the 20th century. In subsequent decades, new generations of researchers primarily focused on Western theoretical models, having a very simplified understanding of Russian developments in the field of the history of sociology from the Soviet period. V.I. Klushin’s scientific articles and monographs, published by leading publishing houses in the USSR, have today become a bibliographic rarity, as they have not been reprinted since the scientist’s death. Nevertheless, many of his studies are of great interest. This applies especially to works devoted to the history of sociology during the transitional period, which began after the Russian Revolution of 1917 and ended with the adoption of the USSR Constitution of 1936. This article focuses not only on V.I. Klushin’s historical-sociological legacy and its significance for the history of science and the methodology of sociology but also raises questions related to political values and ideological convictions. Returning V.I. Klushin’s name to academic discourse is not only part of the politics of memory and an act of justice towards a scholar who survived the war and dedicated his life to science, but also a necessary step for maintaining continuity in the development of Russian sociological thought.
