Abstract

The article analyzes the history of the formation of scientific ideas about such a concept as the function of population migration”, the role of T.I. Zaslavskaya in the creation of the theory of functions of migration of the population is shown. The article discusses the existing functions of migration with its consequences from the Soviet times, the replacement of the latter with economic and social functions. In the article, the replacement of the accelerator function by the function of increasing mobility of the population is argued, the essence and peculiarities of the manifestation of redistributive and selective functions are characterized, as well as the consequences of population migration, the main of which are economic, social, demographic, ethnic and geopolitical.
