Conceptually, the research is based on the concept of “competitive field” containing a stable, reproducible algorithm of behavior of interacting actors: “competitive orientation” – “competencies” – “competitive advantages” – “competitiveness”. The empirical base of the study is the questionnaire survey of 956 representatives of working youth in Tyumen, Tobolsk, Ishim and rural areas of Tyumen region in Russia. The main results of several focus group interviews conducted with existing young entrepreneurs and students with a view to the implementation of entrepreneurial activities are: 1) not just those who consider themselves capable of influencing the course of their lives, but those who are ready to assert this ability in specific socio-economic and socio-cultural fields of implementation of the chosen life trajectories feel competitive themselves; 2) continuous, purposeful and regular self-education in the process of movement on a certain labor/life trajectory transforms the existing educational, innovative potential into a special competitive advantage, ensuring competitiveness – the real ability to successfully influence one’s course of live; 3) possession of university graduates and young people working with business system competence provides necessary conditions for successful implementation of their life trajectory, both through employment, creation and development of their own businesses.
