Abstract

Improving the school teacher social status in Moscow is considered as the result of the educational ten-years reforms in the capital of Russia. Empirical basis consists of statistical data and the results of sociological surveys conducted in 2013–2021 (Project Management Laboratory of the Moscow City Pedagogical University). Indicators of income, level of teachers education, and factors influencing teacher position prestige are analyzed. The main factor attracting teachers to work at the school is a significant increase in salaries leading to a significant increase in the proportion of male teachers of the most productive age, thereby reducing the feminization trend of the teachers contingent. Negative factors are congestion and legal insecurity in conflict situations. As a result of ten-year education reforms, position of a teacher in Moscow has become attractive, since it allows professional self-realization without searching for additional earnings. This position seems to be reliable in the long term. At the same time, there is legal insecurity and prospects for professional burnout due to the highly inntensive work, multitask regime, decline in the teacher prestige, consumerist attitudes manifested by a fraction of parents and students.
