Deviatko I.F. “Dual Process” Theory in Social Cognition and Outlook to Augment Sociological Knowledge. Sotsiologicheskie issledovaniya [Sociological Studies]. 2025. No 8. P. 3-13
The article examines two main approaches to integrating models, methods, and findings from cognitive science into sociological theory and methodology. It argues for comparative advantages of the first interdisciplinary approach – termed ‘cognitive social science (and neuroscience)’ – while critically assessing the limitations of the second, conventionally labeled ‘cognitive sociology’. Drawing on specific examples, the article highlights how the cognitive social science tradition benefits from the systematic application of models and research informed by dual‑process theory to the study of social cognition. Particular attention is given to its prospective contributions to the sociology of morality and the refinement of sociological methodology.
