Abstract

Pluralization and dynamics of development, institutionalization, variability of discursive practices problematize the phenomenon of non-modal parenting. The paradoxical absence of a theoretical framework makes it necessary to attempt its conceptualizing based on the analysis of domestic and foreign publications on the topic. The research methodology is based on the family change or crisis theory, theoretical approaches by T. Parsons, P. Bourdieu, A. Giddens, Z. Bauman. Nonmodal parenting as a subject of study might be specified as a family substitute, social practice, social identity. In the article author proposes criteria and definition for non-modal parenting. differentiated motherhood and fatherhood, and their non-modal practices. The main differences between alternative/ non-normative models and the traditional ones are concentrated around the structure of childhood and parenthood, emergence, realization, subjectivity, relevance and perception of the non-modal parenting.
